Hi, I’m Hanna.

In 2018, I attended my first birth after being inspired by the book, "Spiritual Midwifery," and deciding to become a doula. My excitement was through the roof and I actually threw up after baby was born! I spent time after this, questioning if the "on call" lifestyle was right for me, and found other ways to explore my passion.

I went on to graduate with a Bachelors in Gender and Women's Studies and took every opportunity possible to write about birth. I poured my heart into my thesis titled "Black Bodies Then and Now: Connecting the Slave Era to Birth Practices Today." I learned so much about the history of midwifery and how it relates to the current discrepancies in care that Black birthing folks receive.

Throughout the years, I have found myself exploring the boundaries of "normal" within the modern birthing world. I studied plants and how they affect pregnancy and labor, I became an abortion doula, I took classes on death & dying, and a crisis response for birth workers training. I believe that all of these experiences fall under the category of "normal" and "physiological" and have caused me to deepen my understanding of the human experience.

I finally found my way back to midwifery and I am attending school at the Midwives College of Utah; I plan to become a CPM by 2027. I moved to Minneapolis, MN to be closer to my family and because there is so much happening here with midwifery. When I am not studying, I enjoy spending time with my eight year-old cat, Blair, and my niece and nephews. I love live music, hiking, spending time with friends, and gardening.

I am on a journey to learn as much as I can and grow into a competent care provider that my clients can trust. I find myself drawn to supporting marginalized communities and am actively learning how to be a culturally competent provider. Each new experience humbles me and teaches me a lesson for the next one. I am grateful to have had to opportunities I have and I look forward those to come.

Philosophy

I ground my midwifery practice in evidence-informed care while honoring the transformative, physiological, and sacred nature of birth. I believe birth is a powerful and deeply personal experience, deserving of both respect and autonomy. My role is to walk alongside the client, offering informed guidance, calm presence, and unwavering support through every phase of the journey.

I prioritize preserving the birth space as a place of safety, strength, and stillness. I aim to create an environment that allows the birthing person to fully inhabit their process...physically, emotionally, and spiritually...by being fully present, minimizing unnecessary interference, and offering grounded, steady energy.

Flexibility is a core value in my approach. I understand that birth is inherently unpredictable, and I meet each moment with adaptability and an open mind. I hold space for individual needs, knowing that no two births are alike, and I respond with care that is as dynamic as the experience itself.

Safety is not only about monitoring vitals and outcomes, though these are essential, but also about building trust, offering informed choice, and reducing trauma through compassionate and trauma informed care. I practice in ways that protect both the physical and emotional well-being of the birthing person and their family.

I believe in expanding what is considered possible in birth through trust, collaboration, and courage.

In all I do, I honor the strength and wisdom of birthing people, and I strive to be a steady hand and open heart in one of life’s most powerful transitions.
